Music isn't easy. In the final breaths of a band gone dead, here's a tape that teases out their peak moments, seven terse proclamations of Gloss Rejection's personal pop noir. Each song comes on like a warm wind hewn from the dark void of our doomed city, reaching deep into the angsty corners of 'nothing will fix this.' Irresistably catchy ruminations on gloom, woven through with chorus-afflicted bass, fuzzy where choppy drums meet spacey guitar. For comparisons there's the twisted dynamism of early Breeders, spirited un-grunge pared back to the v. bones, but GR is Katy's voice first and foremost, an instantly recognisable howl, guttural and breathless, both a salve and a sandpaper.
